Tips & Guides
If you of enjoy playing golf very much, it is time you critically assessed your own skills to determine how well up you are. If you think that you have much to learn to improve your skills, do it by all means. When you see that many others who started golfing very much later are now playing much better games, a sense of frustration could set in; but if you go on improving your skills, you will continue to enhance your enjoyment and satisfaction from the game. If you wish to find out how you can get more skillful in the shortest possible time with the least expense, you may read on: (I don’t mean to compromise on skills in favor of costs, but only not to waste money unnecessarily.)
Simply buying the most expensive accessories will not improve your game or skills. Concentrate on accessories that really improve your game keeping in mind that they are not necessarily the most expensive ones. Then how do you find the clubs that are the best match your playing style? It is only through a long drawn out process of testing and elimination of clubs of different types and specifications until you find one that compliments your playing style best. An adjustable club where all the main features such as material, length, flex, grip and head are adjustable is the best buy for a beginner to get to a head start and systematically find the combination that works best. This is by far the best method to discover your golfing preferences. The specifications that work best for you with the adjustable club would serve as a reliable guide when you feel confident and adventurous enough to go for a set of higher quality fixed type golf clubs.
You could also get one of several types of electronic devices with different features and options known as home training equipment to improve your skills without even stepping onto a golf course! They are equipped with sensors and meters that indicate the angle, speed and acceleration as you swing. Although the style of your swing is important, what is very much more important is attaining a consistent swinging style over a large number of swings. If your swinging angle and speed vary from one shot to another, then there is no way of predicting or accurately placing your shots to go anywhere near the set targets on a consistent basis. Watch some slow motion clips of professionals swinging and see how consistent they are in their execution all the time. When you have your first workout with one of those machines, you would notice wide variations from one shot to another; that you will have to correct until you learn to swing keeping to the same angle, speed and acceleration with a reasonable degree of consistency.
Swinging is for long-range shots that do not require absolute accuracy. But the nerve-wracking part is pushing or shoving the ball to a hole, which is called putting. This requires 100% accuracy although at short range; over which many golfers lose points by wasting too many shots on a single putting. This aspect is best practiced on a putting green of a golf course, though with a little effort and cost you can simulate the same conditions to practice at home if you have a spacious grassy lawn. If this can be successfully accomplished at home using a pre-made or a custom built putting green, the money and effort spent would be well worth the end results.
You have the option of investing on a coach rather than on some extravagant equipment and accessories to acquire the required skills. A coach, by watching you critically would be able to advise you of your weak points and help you to overcome them. Expert opinions can count a lot more than what all the electronic equipment can tell you. The expert too may employ some electronic devices to assess and advise you which means that you need not invest on such devices that could only serve you for a limited period during your learning stages.
If you really enjoy the game, don’t do things in half measures. Go all the way towards excellence. If this means investing large amounts on accessories to reach that stage, the additional skills you acquire could more than compensate for the costs incurred.
